8 from 13? It’s certainly possible!
By: Matt P | February 22nd, 2008Gary Johnson reckons City need eight wins from their remaining thirteen games if they are to achieve promotion. So which of the 13 are the best chaces for victory?
Remaining matches:
Colchester (A)
Hull (H)
Charlton (A)
Leicester (A)
Watford (H)
Plymouth (H)
Cardiff (A)
Norwich (H)
Southampton (A)
Wolves (H)
Stoke (A)
Sheffield Utd (A)
Preston (H)
One thing’s for sure - City don’t want to be heading into those last three matches needing three wins from them. As our home form is so strong, I think we have our best chance of victory in those matches against Hull, Plymouth, Norwich, Wolves and Preston. That’s over half the wins needed if we can beat those teams. With Cardiff in mid-table and with only a slim chance of the play-offs, that match seems our next best chance. The same is true of the Sheffield Utd and Southampton matches - although, as I’ve said, it would be better to get our wins on the board early than be going into the last away match of the season needing three points.
That’s the eight wins. Out of the rest, I think we’ll probably draw with Colchester, although I think we have a good chance of victory if we play to our strengths. Watford at home is also definitely winnable, with the matches against Charlton and Leicester away both tough challenges that I think a draw would be a good result from. The toughest of the lot is away to Stoke in the third-to-last match of the season. Hopefully we’ll be reasonably comfortable by then.

Haha, were you watching the match the other night? Palace were only good for fifteen minutes up ’til their goal. Either side of that period City were the better team - 18 shots to 10 shows that.

I did watch the match and Palace still battered you in the second-half.
